Record online figures for BBC Radio 5 Live sport

A record number of people have listened to 5 live’s podcasts and the station has seen a surge in online listening since the start of the World Cup in June. Last month there were more than six million downloads of station podcasts – a record monthly figure for the station. That includes more than two million downloads of the World Cup Daily podcast in June alone.

Evans earning £1.6m for Radio 2 breakfast show

Chris Evans remains the BBC’s highest paid radio presenter in the latest figures published by the corporation today. The 2017-2018 annual report shows the Radio 2 breakfast show host being paid between £1.6m and £1.669m – compared to 2016-2017 when he was paid between £2.2m and £2.249m for his work on both Radio 2 and Top Gear.

BBC Children in Need announced its fundraising total for the 2017 Appeal, £60,750,000. Highlights from the 2017 Appeal include BBC Radio 2’s fundraising spearheaded by Chris Evans’ Breakfast Show which saw millions raised through CarFest and the Breakfast Show’s auctions, Countryfile’s 2017 calendar and Ramble weekends, The One Show’s Rickshaw Challenge and a BBC Children in Need Rocks the 80s concert.

A new specialist audio media buying and creative agency has been created by two former commercial radio directors. “Audio is not just a great medium to work with; it offers more opportunities to connect with an audience than ever. At over 35 million listeners a week, the commercial radio audience is going through a period of growth, with the majority (50.9%) now consuming radio on digital platforms."
