Keir Starmer self-isolates after appearing on LBC

Sir Keir Starmer has announced he’s going into self-isolation shortly after broadcasting with Nick Ferrari on LBC this morning. They were both hosting the new Call Keir phone-in, which is broadcast from LBC’s new studio in Westminster. He’s self-isolating after being told a member of his household started showing symptoms of Covid. It’s not known which member of his household has come down with the symptoms, but a Labour spokesperson says they have had a test for the virus. Sir Keir is self-isolating in line with NHS guidelines to wait for the results and further medical advice. The Labour Party has informed LBC of the situation and...

George Godfrey gets the Radio X evening show

George Godfrey has been appointed as the full time host on Radio X’s evening show. He had been filling in for Gordon Smart who took time off earlier this year for vocal cord treatment, but announced he wasn’t coming back earlier this month. As a result, Jack Wood stays on the Sunday afternoon slot he’s been covering for Gordon. All September football games to air free on radio

All September’s Premier League matches are available live on free-to-air national radio this year. The opening 28 fixtures are being shared between talkSPORT and BBC Radio 5 Live, and kicked off over the weekend with coverage on both stations. At talkSPORT, GameDay programming returns as Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend joins the talkSPORT Breakfast show for the full Premier League season to give all the latest news and insight from inside the Premier League. The station will once again broadcast matches live at 12.30pm, 3pm and 5.30pm on Saturdays between September and May as part of the station’s GameDay coverage, fronted by Reshmin Chowdhury and including Adrian Durham, Faye Carruthers and talent from across the schedule.

LBC introduces Swarbrick on Sunday and other changes

There’s a new schedule at LBC for the autumn, including a new sunday morning show with Tom Swarbrick. In Swarbrick on Sunday from 10am, Tom will focus on the political stories of the day, with knowledge from his time at No.10, which will be broadcast live from LBC’s new Westminster studios, both on radio and on video, streamed in HD. The new show is in addition to Tom’s weeknight programmes, Monday to Thursday, 10pm to 1am. Emma Barnett to host BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour

BBC Radio 5 Live presenter Emma Barnett will be the main host of BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour from January 2021, replacing Jane Garvey. Emma will present the programme from Monday to Thursday each week, leaving her mid-morning 5 Live show at the end of the year. she’ll also continue in her role at Newsnight. Jane continues to present Woman’s Hour until the end of the year. Between October and December a number of other presenters will guest host in place of Jenni Murray whose last programme is on 1 October. Presenter Kate Garraway returns to Smooth Radio

Smooth Radio’s mid-morning presenter Kate Garraway is returning to the schedule from 14th September after a few months off. Kate took time off the 10am till 1pm show after her husband Derek was hospitalised with coronavirus, but she says the time is right to get back on the radio. Myleene Klass has been covering the 10am till 1pm show and will now return to her weekend show each Saturday afternoon show from 4pm to 7pm. Newspaper reports today say Derek remains in a minimally conscious state in hospital, and Kate has shared her family’s story over the last few weeks with OK magazine...

More stars confirmed for Jazz FM’s The Music that Made Me

Jazz FM has confirmed three more jazz superstars as part of its The Music That Made Me series, which features artists intimately discussing their most defining musical influences and inspirations. Tomorrow evening (5 September) at 9pm, Jazz FM’s Nigel Williams will be in conversation with American singer-songwriter Norah Jones. The nine-time Grammy Award winner had early success with her album Come Away With Me and eighteen years later released Pick Me Up Off The Floor in June. Scala Radio hires Mr Motivator to present new show

Scala Radio has hired Derrick Evans, a.k.a. Mr Motivator for a two-part series exploring the power of listening to classical music while running. In his new show, Mr. Motivator On Da Run, the fitness legend will put together a classical playlist to work out to and help beat the lockdown blues. BBC Radio 2 reveals Wonderwall by Oasis is the UK’s official best-selling Britpop song

Oasis were crowned the Kings of Britpop on Bank Holiday Monday on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sounds as Britpop Top 50 with Jo Whiley counted down the UK’s 50 best-selling Britpop songs of the 90s. Using exclusive data from Official Charts Company, Wonderwall by Oasis topped the chart at number one with sales of 1.4 million, followed by Don’t Look Back In Anger by Oasis in second place, with The Verve’s Bitter Sweet Symphony taking the bronze medal.
