Winners announced for the Global Awards 2021

The winners of The Global Awards 2021 have been revealed with Dua Lipa picking up three awards. Now in its fourth year, The Global Awards brings together Capital, Heart, Smooth, Classic FM, LBC, Radio X, Capital XTRA and Gold, to honour the stars of music, news and entertainment. UK radio stations set to cover US Election 2020

The biggest event of the year in US politics is set to be covered live by a number of radio stations in the UK this Tuesday. LBC, BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 5 Live and News Radio UK will all pause regular programmes for non-stop coverage from America. LBC’s special show starts at 10pm and will be in video as well as audio with Iain Dale and Shelagh Fogarty live from LBC’s new studios in Westminster. Keir Starmer self-isolates after appearing on LBC

Sir Keir Starmer has announced he’s going into self-isolation shortly after broadcasting with Nick Ferrari on LBC this morning. They were both hosting the new Call Keir phone-in, which is broadcast from LBC’s new studio in Westminster. He’s self-isolating after being told a member of his household started showing symptoms of Covid. It’s not known which member of his household has come down with the symptoms, but a Labour spokesperson says they have had a test for the virus. Sir Keir is self-isolating in line with NHS guidelines to wait for the results and further medical advice. The Labour Party has informed LBC of the situation and...

LBC introduces Swarbrick on Sunday and other changes

There’s a new schedule at LBC for the autumn, including a new sunday morning show with Tom Swarbrick. In Swarbrick on Sunday from 10am, Tom will focus on the political stories of the day, with knowledge from his time at No.10, which will be broadcast live from LBC’s new Westminster studios, both on radio and on video, streamed in HD. The new show is in addition to Tom’s weeknight programmes, Monday to Thursday, 10pm to 1am. Tom said: “From the heart of Westminster, my new LBC Sunday morning show will be the place to hear and see those in power explain the decisions that affect us all. Nick Ferrari picks up Gold at the IRN Awards

All the winners have been announced for the IRN Awards 2020, including the Gold Award going to LBC’s Nick Ferrari. Nick won the IRN Gold Award to mark his outstanding contribution to commercial radio news. Viewers of the online event were played a montage of Ferrari’s best interview clips in which he challenges Boris Johnson, Michael Gove, Dianne Abbott, the former Green Party leader Natalie Bennett and the Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick. Accepting the award, Nick said: “These are strange times to be receiving an award but I know it’s great that there are many class Global acts that are on the list so for me to actually receive one means a lot. Nigel Farage to leave LBC with immediate effect

British politician and radio host Nigel Farage is leaving LBC with immediate effect, the station has announced. He joined the Global station in 2014 to take calls during Nick Ferrari’s breakfast show in a segment called Phone Farage and went on to host his own daily show in 2017. An LBC spokesperson said: “Nigel Farage’s contract with LBC is up very shortly and, following discussions with him, Nigel is stepping down from LBC with immediate effect. “We thank Nigel for the enormous contribution he has made to LBC and wish him well.” ...

LBC signs Labour Leader for monthly Call Keir radio show

The Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer is to host his own monthly phone-in show on LBC. The half-hour slot starts next Monday – 8th June – at 9am, during Nick Ferrari at Breakfast. Previous such regular phone-in slots on the station have been with Nick Clegg when he was Deputy Prime Minister and Boris Johnson when he was Mayor of London. Sir Keir Starmer said: “I’m very conscious that one of my first jobs is to rebuild trust in the Labour Party with the public. The best way of doing that is to listen to the public and to LBC’s listeners and hear what they’ve got to say. What I always get from these phone-ins is a real sense of what matters to people. Having people on, telling me what they think, is the only way to gauge what people think and to hear what their real concerns are. I’m looking forward to it.” ...

Cristo Foufas replaces Iain Lee on talkRADIO lates

talkRADIO has replaced Iain Lee with Cristo Foufas on the 10pm till 1am slot. Cristo started his show on Tuesday night after Iain hosted his last show on Monday. Iain says he was told on Tuesday that he wouldn’t be on-air again. Cristo is now covering the slot until a replacement is announced. “From tonight, and every weeknight from 10pm to 1am I’ll be stepping into the late show @talkRADIO where we’ll give you the chance to discuss the days’ big news, tell your stories, and keep each other company in the small hours. RAJAR Q1 2020: Four percent growth in digital share

Digital listening share has increased to a new record of 58.6% up from 56.4% year on year in the latest RAJAR figures. Digital reach is also at a new record with 36.9 million adults, or 67% of the population, tuning in via a digital platform, up from 36.3m in Q1 2019. Listening via online and apps now accounts for 14% of all listening and nearly a quarter (24%) of digital listening, having grown by 25.4 million hours (or by 23%) year on year. With 32% of adults now claiming to own a smart speaker, online listening in home was for the fourth consecutive quarter the fastest growing platform and location, increasing by 21 million hours (or by 26.6%) year on year...

RAJAR Q1 2020: London and national brands roundup

BBC Radio 2 has lost almost a million listeners in the last year, according to the Q1/2020 audience research from RAJAR. The reach of the UK’s biggest radio station fell from 15.356m at the start of 2019 to 14.362m over the first three months of this year. The two biggest commercial radio networks – Heart and Capital – both lost significant reach over the 12 months too. The Heart network lost 787,000 listeners to leave a reach of 7.737m, while Capital dropped 815,000 to 6.386m. When you add in the other Heart and Capital branded stations – 70s, 80s, 90s, Dance, Xtra and Xtra Reloaded – the Heart brand reaches 9.365m and the Capital brand 7.502m...
