Popcaan, Stefflon Don and Kojo Funds added to the 1Xtra Live line-up

BBC Radio 1Xtra has announced three additional artists for this year’s 1Xtra Live line-up. Hosted by the 1Xtra DJ family, the station’s flagship live music event will take place in London at the O2 Arena on Saturday 22 September. Popcaan says: “The UK holds a special place in my heart so can’t wait to perform for you guys all my UK fans look out for a very special performance.”

Date set for new Radio 1 Breakfast Show with Greg James

Greg James will start the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show earlier than expected, he has announced on BBC Breakfast TV. He was a guest on the show today, Friday morning, to announce the new programme will start on Monday 20th August rather than the previously expected date of September 3rd.

Nick Grimshaw hosts his last Radio 1 Breakfast Show

Ahead of Greg James taking over the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show, Nick Grimshaw has thanked his breakfast show listeners for listening over the last six years. Nick hosted his last show today by playing some of the biggest songs he’s featured during his time on the programme, along with one final nixtape.

RAJAR Q2 2018: London and national brands update

Kiss has taken over from Capital as the biggest commercial radio station in London in the latest Q2/2018 RAJAR listening figures. Capital’s audience in the capital is down 10.8% year on year to 2.063m, while Kiss has had a great quarter, hitting 2.087m weekly listeners – 24,000 more than its rival. In third place is Magic (1.667m), which leapfrogs rival Heart this quarter (1.404m). LBC is in fifth on reach with 1.280m listeners in the capital (down 9.3% year on year).

Greg James thanks listeners as he leaves Drivetime

Greg James has said thank you to his listeners and his co-host Chris Smith for his last six years on the Drive show at Radio 1. Greg presented his last show on Thursday last week ahead of moving to Breakfast in the autumn. He posted a message on Instagram along with a photo of his team, saying he’s sad to be not working with Chris Smith anymore as he’s become his best mate.

2018 New York Radio Festivals winners announced

Two of the five top ‘Grand Awards’ of the New York International Radio Festivals have gone to the UK this year, thanks to the BBC and TBI Media. The BBC won in the Best Digital Special Event category for putting on BBC Radio 1 Vintage for the station’s 50th birthday last year, whilst TBI Media took home the prize for its Born This Way documentary made for BBC Radio 2.

BBC Radio 1Xtra follows BBC Radio 2 to Ibiza

Following on from the announcement that Radio 2 is heading to Ibiza, 1Xtra has just announced it too is going to the island for the first time to broadcast live. 1Xtra is to take over Ibiza Rocks on Saturday 4th August, hosted by Charlie Sloth and DJ Target, with DJ sets from MistaJam, DJ Charlsey and Sian Anderson.
