The shortlist for this year’s Radio Academy’s ARIAs have been announced at an event at News UK headquarters in London. RAJAR Q3 2019: London and national brands round-up

Zoe Ball has lost another 364,000 listeners to her BBC Radio 2 breakfast show in the latest radio listening figures from RAJAR. It means more than a million weekly listeners have switched off since she took over the breakfast show from Chris Evans in January. Union JACK introduces live breakfast radio show with Adam English

Union JACK is launching a live breakfast show each weekday morning with Student Radio Awards winner Adam English. The station says Adam will be the youngest national breakfast show host in the UK, and The Full English will be the first live show on the station since it launched in 2016. Adam was awarded the Best Male winner at the Student Radio Award 2018 and presented a one-off show on BBC Radio 1 following his win. RAJAR Q2 2019: London and national brands round-up

Zoe Ball has lost more than three quarters of a million listeners to her BBC Radio 2 breakfast show, according to the latest audience research from RAJAR. The show’s reach is down 781,000 quarter-on-quarter to 8.266m for the three months survey period up to the 23rd June 2019. In Q1/19 she had 9.047m listeners; in Q2/2018 Chris Evans reached 9.038m. Radio 2’s audience at breakfast is now the lowest its been since Q3/2010, when Evans was fairly new in the job.

Union JACK goes live from the Edinburgh Festival Fringe

A live radio show will be broadcast each evening live from the Edinburgh Festival Fringe by Union JACK this year. On the Mic will be broadcast every single night of the Fringe, from the 2nd to 26th August between 9pm and 10pm. Each show will feature four comedians who are performing at the Fringe, interviewed alongside highlights from their shows. Hosted by Fringe veteran and comedian, Martin Walker, the show will act as a guide to the festival for the uninitiated, allowing listeners to experience the comedy and atmosphere on the radio.

RAJAR Q1 2019 – Zoe & Chris plus national and London radio round-up

Chris Evans and Virgin Radio both reached over a million listeners in the first quarter of 2019. The digital station’s audience has almost trebled compared with the last period of 2018 thanks to the arrival of Evans from Radio 2. In Q1/2019 it posts a weekly reach of 1.3m and total hours of 7.765m. A year ago those figures were 427,000 and 1.632m. Last quarter they were 447,000 and 1.686m.

Union Jack is to launch three new comedy series in a bid to claim the title of the ‘Home of British Comedy’ on the radio. Launching on Monday 6 May 2019 is Union JACK’s Pundays, hosted by Colin Leggo, winner of one of Leicester Comedy Festival’s sell-out events, the 2019 UK Pun Championship. RAJAR Q3 2018: London and national brands update

Nick Grimshaw left the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show with half a million more listeners than a year ago – handing them to Greg James who took over the show halfway through the last quarter. The show now attracts 5.75m listeners (Mon – Fri) and is up 465,000 Year on Year. In London, Capital is back on top with almost 2,100,000 listeners according to Reach in the London commercial radio battle, as Kiss slips back under the 2m listener mark (1,958,000). Magic is in third place (1.5m) whilst Heart comes in 4th (1.4m). But BBC Radio 4 continues to lead the London Reach with 2.4m listeners.
