Ross Buchanan joins Absolute Radio for weekend breakfast

Absolute Radio has signed former Radio X presenter Ross Buchanan to present weekend breakfast. Ross will also host a number of shows across the network of seven Absolute Radio stations. Absolute Radio Content Director Paul Sylvester told RadioToday: “Ross is a passionate music fan and this is a great opportunity for him to share his love on-air. He’s got a great personality and we’re delighted to give him a platform to develop.”

Brexit is the 2019 Children’s Word Of The Year by OUP for BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show’s 500 Words competition

Analysis of short stories submitted to BBC Radio 2’s 500 Words competition by Oxford University Press reveals that the Brexit impasse and Theresa May’s travails are inspiring children’s creativity. A significant increase in the use of vegan and vegetarianism, plus references to climate change and plastic, show that British children are increasingly aware of health and environmental issues, along with political activism.

Gold returns to national digital radio with James Bassam on Breakfast

Gold is returning to the national DAB multiplex D1 and putting James Bassam – The Bassman from Capital – on Breakfast. James will replace Tony Dibbin, who left the station last month after a decade on-air, from Monday 10th June. The Bassman currently presents on Capital. David Andrews, now covering weekday breakfast, will continue to host weekend mornings on Gold, from 8am to 12pm.

Pet Shop Boys to headline BBC Radio 2 Live In Hyde Park

BBC Radio 2, the UK’s most listened to radio station, proudly announces the line-up for one of the summer’s most-anticipated music festivals - BBC Radio 2 Live In Hyde Park - which takes place on Sunday 15 September in London. The most successful duo in UK music history, Pet Shop Boys will headline the concert, performing a selection of hits from their award-winning catalogue of classics. This year’s line-up is a pop music bonanza, with performances from Westlife, Status Quo, Clean Bandit, Bananarama, Emeli Sandé, Kelsea Ballerini and Simply Red.

Radio 1 and 1Xtra return to Ibiza

BBC Radio 1Xtra will be returning to Ibiza following the success of last years event, taking some of the biggest names in black music to the white isle for a night of DJ sets and performances at Ibiza Rocks on Saturday 3 August. BBC Radio 1 will also be returning for its annual trip, continuing its legacy on the island. This year, the station will be taking the biggest dance artists to Ibiza Rocks on Friday 2 August hosted by dance champions Annie Mac and Danny Howard. MistaJam will also be hosting a Dance Anthems special from Café Mambo celebrating 25 years of this iconic venue. Full details to be announced in due course.

DJ Spoony to present Classical Garage on Scala Radio

Former Radio 1, 5 Live and Kiss presenter DJ Spoony is joining Bauer’s classical station Scala Radio to present a four-part series. Spoony’s Classical Garage will start on 9th June in the Sunday 1-3pm slot on the station and will be repeated on Tuesday evenings. Bauer says the show will ‘explore the trailblazing DJ’s passions for classical music in Sport, Film and TV as he plays an eclectic range of artists including Beethoven, Wookie, Vivaldi and Twister’. George Galloway sacked by talkRADIO over Israel tweet

talkRADIO has terminated George Galloway’s contract following his tweet at the weekend after Liverpool beat Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League final. Not long after the final whistle on Saturday night, Mr Galloway wrote: “Congratulations to the great people of Liverpool to the memory of the socialist miner Bill Shankley to the fallen 96 to those who fought justice for them and to the Liverpool dockers. No Israel flags on the Cup!”

Emma B to replace Angie Greaves on Magic afternoon show

Former Radio 1, Heart and Smooth presenter Emma B is taking over the afternoon slot on Magic next month as Angie Greaves heads to Smooth. Emma is currently on the weekend schedule on the Bauer station, but will move to weekdays 2-5pm from 1st July. She told RadioToday: “I am so totally thrilled to be presenting Magic Radio Afternoons. Gethin, Gemma and Dave exit Hits Radio Breakfast Show

Breakfast presenters Gethin Jones and Dave Vitty, plus afternoon presenter Debbie Mac, are leaving the station, whilst Gemma Atkinson will move to Drive. The major changes come just 12 months since the station launched amid much fanfare with a large marketing campaign and almost national coverage on DAB. Gemma will co-host with Wes Butters when she returns from maternity but in the meantime, Wes will move to breakfast to present with Dave Vitty and former Emmerdale actress Sherree Murphy.

LBC puts Tory leadership candidates on-air with Iain Dale

Conservative Party leadership candidates will each go head-to-head with LBC’s Iain Dale in a series of one-hour programmes next month. In the race to be the next Prime Minister, the candidates will be live during Iain Dale in the Evening, starting with Rory Stewart, the Secretary of State for International Development and the MP for Penrith and The Border, on Monday 10th June.
