Marvin Humes and Kat Shoob leave Big Top 40

Marvin Humes and Kat Shoob are stepping down from hosting the Big Top 40 chart show at Global. Kat has been on the show for almost a decade whilst Marvin joined the countdown to replace Rich Clarke in 2014. The show is currently broadcast across 140 radio stations with an audience each week of 2.2 million, but this will change next month as Bauer and other radio groups stop taking the show. leaving it predominantly on Capital and Heart.

Emma Bunton takes a break from Heart Breakfast

Heart Breakfast co-presenter Emma Bunton has announced she will be stepping down from the daily show whilst on tour with the Spice Girls next year. On the programme this morning (Monday), Emma confirmed said she won’t be on the programme next year to focus on the reunion tour, her family and other exciting projects, saying it was the hardest thing she’s ever had to do. Emma will still be on-air each Sunday evening from 7pm till 10pm as normal across the Heart network.

RAJAR Q3 2018: London and national brands update

Nick Grimshaw left the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show with half a million more listeners than a year ago – handing them to Greg James who took over the show halfway through the last quarter. The show now attracts 5.75m listeners (Mon – Fri) and is up 465,000 Year on Year. In London, Capital is back on top with almost 2,100,000 listeners according to Reach in the London commercial radio battle, as Kiss slips back under the 2m listener mark (1,958,000). Magic is in third place (1.5m) whilst Heart comes in 4th (1.4m). But BBC Radio 4 continues to lead the London Reach with 2.4m listeners.

RAJAR Q3 2018: Regional and local radio round-up

Manchester is once again our focus on the local radio round-up, where the station previously known as Key 103 has lost more listeners. Hits Radio (Manchester) is reporting 325,000 weekly reach, compared with 374,000 last quarter. This is half the amount of listeners it had four years ago. Newly rebranded Key Radio (previously Key 2) has 53,000 listeners compared with 81,000 three months ago. Hits Radio’s Market Share has dropped from 5.2% to 3.9% and hours are down by 561,000 in three months.

Global closes Capital TV and Heart TV stations

Capital TV and Heartv have ceased transmissions on Sky/Freesat after six years of broadcasting. The two services launched as music channels in 2012 and also carried special programmes such as coverage of the Jingle Bell Ball and Global Awards. They were on Sky 387 and 388, Freesat 516 and 517, and inside the Global Player apps.

Global raises more than £4million for Make Some Noise

Global has spent today raising money for its Make Some Noise charity with a number of special activities taking place across all of its brands. The national charity gives a voice and a lifeline to small projects across the UK that struggle to be heard. Since Global’s Make Some Noise launched in 2014, it has raised over £15million and raised awareness for 224 charities and projects around the country.

Final agenda confirmed for Drive to Digital event

Digital Radio UK has confirmed the final conference agenda for Drive to Digital 2018: The Future of Radio. Drive to Digital 2018 will be chaired by Gethin Jones, co-presenter of the new Hits Radio Breakfast Show, and has a line up of senior speakers from broadcasters, supply chain, the automotive sector, the audio market and podcasters, who will be sharing their views on the future of radio.

LBC and Heart run Against Hate campaign on-air

Nationwide is joining forces with LBC and Heart to continue the #TogetherAgainstHate campaign. Created by Wavemaker, this latest part of the campaign will involve three weeks of activity on LBC and Heart starting this week. Throughout this week, LBC will run a special report where guests will be interviewed during Shelagh Fogarty’s show weekdays 1pm – 4pm to discuss different topics around online hate.

RAJAR Q2 2018: London and national brands update

Kiss has taken over from Capital as the biggest commercial radio station in London in the latest Q2/2018 RAJAR listening figures. Capital’s audience in the capital is down 10.8% year on year to 2.063m, while Kiss has had a great quarter, hitting 2.087m weekly listeners – 24,000 more than its rival. In third place is Magic (1.667m), which leapfrogs rival Heart this quarter (1.404m). LBC is in fifth on reach with 1.280m listeners in the capital (down 9.3% year on year).

Comedian Ellie Taylor and author Anna Whitehouse are to host a brand new Sunday night show on Heart. They’ll be pausing the music and chatting about sex and relationships, and what’s been happening in their worlds that week. Ellie is known for ‘The Mash Report’, and her ‘Message From Women Everywhere’ sketch went viral earlier this year with more than 60 million views...
