UK stations line-up for International Radio Festival

Global closes Capital TV and Heart TV stations
Capital TV and Heartv have ceased transmissions on Sky/Freesat after six years of broadcasting. The two services launched as music channels in 2012 and also carried special programmes such as coverage of the Jingle Bell Ball and Global Awards. Global raises more than £4million for Make Some Noise
Global has spent today raising money for its Make Some Noise charity with a number of special activities taking place across all of its brands. The national charity gives a voice and a lifeline to small projects across the UK that struggle to be heard. Zoe Ball to replace Chris Evans on BBC Radio 2 Breakfast
Zoe Ball will take over as the new permanent presenter on the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show from 2019, Chris Evans has announced on-air. Chris announced a month ago that he was leaving the show and then revealed he was joining Virgin Radio UK from the New Year. Eighties are the new seventies at Pirate FM
Pirate 70s has been removed from DAB in Cornwall and replaced by a new sister station – Pirate 80s. UKRD is continuing to operate Pirate 70s but online only, whilst Pirate 80s has launched with a full schedule of presenters this week, syndicated with Eagle 80s. BBC Radio 1 has named two new presenters for Newsbeat, with the pair saying it is a “dream come true” to present the regular news bulletins. Ben Mundy will read out the 12.45pm and 5.45pm bulletins from Monday to Thursday. He replaces Chris Smith who has taken a role off-mic. Government to consider next steps for digital radio
The minister responsible for radio has told the radio industry it should continue to work together as the government reviews the future for digital radio. Margot James MP was speaking on a video shown at the Drive to Digital 2018 conference held at the British Museum in London.
