Hits Radio launches £1 Million Pound Cash Register competition
The Hits Radio Network is launching the £1 Million Pound Cash Register – offering listeners the chance to win a share of £1 million pounds. The contest will run Monday to Friday across the Hits Radio Network in England, with a new cash amount revealed each day on the breakfast show. To have a chance of a winning, listeners can text in each day to be included in that day’s cash register. One person will be called on air each day and must say the exact amount on offer in order to win.Publication date: 16.05.2019
RAJAR Q1 2019 – Zoe & Chris plus national and London radio round-up
Chris Evans and Virgin Radio both reached over a million listeners in the first quarter of 2019. The digital station’s audience has almost trebled compared with the last period of 2018 thanks to the arrival of Evans from Radio 2. In Q1/2019 it posts a weekly reach of 1.3m and total hours of 7.765m. A year ago those figures were 427,000 and 1.632m. Last quarter they were 447,000 and 1.686m.Publication date: 16.05.2019
RAJAR Q1 2019: Milestones reached for DAB and digital radio
Digital listening has reached a new record share of 56.4%, up from 50.9% in Q1 2018, according to RAJAR Q1 2019 data released today. The annual growth of 5.5 percentage points to 56.4% from 50.9% represents the strongest ever percentage point growth in digital listening platform share since records began. Digital reach increased by over 2 million listeners to 36.3 million and overall digital listening grew by 55.9 million hours or by 10.7% year on year.Publication date: 16.05.2019

National sponsor announced for networked Heart breakfast show
Global has signed broadband provider TalkTalk to sponsor Heart Breakfast – which will be the largest show in commercial radio when it launches nationally on June 3rd. Margot James confirms Digital Radio review to begin
A new review of digital radio has been announced by Margot James, MP, Minister for Digital and Creative Industries at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. The minister has confirmed the Government’s support for the radio sector and announced that the DCMS will collaborate with radio broadcasters and the supply chain on a review and programme of work to ‘ensure a healthy and vibrant digital future for UK radio’.Publication date: 13.05.2019

Former Capital Birmingham breakfast co-host Matilda New has been hired by Signal 1 to co-host Breakfast. She will replace Emma Jones, who has moved on to focus on her television work and weekly Country Hits Radio programmes. Emma will continue to cover at the station during holidays. Danny Baker sacked from 5 Live over chimp tweet
Danny Baker has been sacked from his Saturday morning slot on BBC Radio 5 Live, after apologising for a tweet about the royal baby. He posted an image on Wednesday evening showing a clothed chimpanzee holding hands with a couple, along with the caption ‘Royal Baby leaves hospital’.
