Absolute Radio plans listener party for 10th birthday

Manic Street Preachers, George Ezra and Blossoms will help Absolute Radio celebrate its 10th birthday this September. Dave Berry announced details of the special gig for 2000 listeners on his new breakfast show, which will take place at O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, London on Tuesday 25th September.

KISS FRESH launches new Drum & Bass radio show

The KISS Network has launched a new radio show dedicated to Drum & Bass music with new host Mollie Collins. ‘The Drum & Bass Show with Mollie Collins’ debuted on KISS FRESH last Tuesday night at 9pm. In just two years, Mollie has played at over 100 shows and 10 festivals this year, featuring on numerous major rave lineups across Europe.

All Saints get up close and personal with Lincs FM

Lincs FM played host to All Saints in an intimate gig to around 200 of their listeners this week in Newark. All the tickets for the show at the Palace Theatre in the town were won by listeners to the radio station. On bringing All Saints to Newark, Lincs FM’s Programme Manager Sam Heywood said: “I am thrilled that Lincs FM could bring All Saints to the area days before their new album is out and show the people of Newark what we are all about.

Cool FM signs two year deal with Ulster Rugby

Cool FM has teamed up with Ulster Rugby in an exclusive two-year deal, extending to sister stations Downtown Radio and Downtown Country. The partnership will see Cool FM deliver new match day initiatives at the home games across the year, with content online, on air, and across news programming.

45 Radio launches in Norwich on DAB multiplex

A new radio station has launched in Norwich on DAB targetting the 45+ age group, called 45 Radio. 45 Radio is playing “Music for our generation” and is looking to expand to other areas in the near future, in addition to an online feed via apps and smart speakers. The station says it is “A lifestyle sound geared towards the future with events and more with at least 55 minutes per hour with no interruption”

Greg James thanks listeners as he leaves Drivetime

Greg James has said thank you to his listeners and his co-host Chris Smith for his last six years on the Drive show at Radio 1. Greg presented his last show on Thursday last week ahead of moving to Breakfast in the autumn. He posted a message on Instagram along with a photo of his team, saying he’s sad to be not working with Chris Smith anymore as he’s become his best mate.

The VOX Awards are now open for entries ahead of the annual awards ceremony and voice-over conference in October. The VOX event is for professional voiceover artists, agents, creatives, producers and the audio industry and will see two new categories introduced this year.

Radio helps mark release of Now 100 album

Radio stations including Absolute 80s, Virgin and BBC Radio 2 are among those airing special programmes as the 100th Now That’s What I Call Music album is released. Bauer digital station Absolute 80s is broadcasting a celebration at 8pm tonight (Thursday), presented by Mark Goodier, called “That Was Then, This is Now 100”. It will look back over 35 years of the compilation album.

BBC Radio 4’s Today programme has launched its inaugural student journalism awards aiming to discover and acknowledge the best in student media. The BBC Radio 4 Today Programme Student Journalism Awards will celebrate students across a range of individual and team categories. The winners of the two most prestigious awards will be offered paid employment with the BBC.

Ofcom calls LBC meeting after Farage complaint

Ofcom has requested a meeting with LBC managers to discuss its compliance processes after it rejected a complaint about Nigel Farage. The presenter, who is on-air Monday to Thursday 7pm till 8pm, attracted a complaint from a listener after giving out five statistics regarding Brexit during his show on 3rd October 2017.
