Mark Wright to host evening show on Heart

Global has announced that Mark Wright is to be the new host of evenings on Heart from tonight (Monday 23 March). This follows the shows former presenter Sian Welby leaving the station to join Capital as co-host of the breakfast show. As well as presenting Mondays – Thursdays 7pm – 10pm, Mark will continue to host his Sunday afternoon show on Heart (12pm – 4pm). Sian Welby joins Roman and Sonny on Capital Breakfast

Capital has announced that Sian Welby is joining its breakfast show team, replacing Vick Hope. Sian moves from the Heart evening show. She’s been on with Roman Kemp and Sonny Jay this week as a guest but has now been confirmed as officially being part of the team. Sian got her big break in 2010 as a weather presenter on Channel 5 and has been with Heart for just over 3 years, having replaced Roberto on evenings in January 2017. She said: “After an incredible 3 years at Heart I am beyond excited to be starting a whole new adventure on Capital – it hasn’t really sunk in yet but I’m overwhelmed with the support from everyone…I can’t stop smiling!”...

Global’s Classic FM Live event won’t go ahead

Global says its Classic FM Live event at the Royal Albert Hall on Monday 18th May won’t now go ahead. This follows the government’s advice regarding mass gatherings because of the developing coronavirus outbreak, together with the uncertainty surrounding live events and the Royal Albert Hall’s closure period. The sold-out concert was to be in celebration of the 20th anniversary of ‘Classic FM Live’...

BBC Radio 5 Live to take Radio London overnight shows

BBC Radio 5 Live will take BBC Radio London’s overnight shows for the foreseeable future In a bid to prioritise its resources, RadioToday can reveal. And as all other BBC local stations currently take 5 Live overnight, they will also relay the programmes of BBC Radio London instead. Dotun Adebayo is the weekday overnight host on BBC Radio London from 1am till 4am, but he is scheduled to move to 5 Live from April 5th. It is unknown at this stage what will happen at that point, but it is presumed Radio London will continue with live programmes around the clock for the foreseeable...

Radio stations to unite with You’ll Never Walk Alone

You’ll Never Walk Alone will be played out simultaneously on a number of radio stations this Friday morning. NPO 3FM presenter Sander Hoogendoorn had the idea to bring all radio stations in the Netherlands together during the corona crisis, but now BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2 and dozens more across Europe are joining in. Bauer’s Greatest Hits Radio will play the tune during Breakfast with Simon Ross from Liverpool, along with the Breakfast shows on Hits Radio stations in England, plus Country Hits Radio...

BBC local radio switches to news-led AM output

BBC local radio stations will switch to a more news-led service during breakfast and mid-morning shows, opening phone lines and airing expert advice for local communities between 6am and midday. The move comes as the BBC announces the extra measures it will be taking to offer more information and content during the coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak. Under the umbrella Make A Difference, every local radio station will join up with local volunteer groups to help co-ordinate support for the elderly, housebound or at risk, making sure people know what help is available in their area...

The Radio Academy postpones Radio Festival 2020

This year’s Radio Festival will not take place on May 18th due to the coronavirus. The Radio Academy was booked into the British Library for another day of industry insights, presentations and interviews but now the event will move to a different, as yet unannounced date. The Radio Festival was part of Radio Audio Week – which includes the Radiocentre Tuning In event (which is currently still scheduled to go ahead) and the British Podcast Awards (now postponed till 7th July)...

New logo and transmitter for Downtown Radio

Downtown Radio is marking its 44th year on the air with the launch of a brand-new FM transmitter and new visual logo. The new frequency will broadcast from Carnmoney Hill on 103.4FM and will complement the stations existing FM network across Northern Ireland. Downtown can now be heard on 96.4FM, 96.6FM, 102.3FM, 102.4FM, 103.1FM, 103.4FM and 1026AM plus DAB. Also, former Cool FM DJ Glen Pavis is joining Gary Myles on the Downtown Breakfast Show whilst Owen Larkin is crossing over from Q Radio for a new afternoon programme...

Radio 2’s OB from C2C now a studio based show after festival cancellation

Following the cancellation of C2C at London’s O2 tomorrow (Saturday 14 March), BBC Radio 2’s live outside broadcast from the event won’t be happening. The global pandemic of COVID-19 has forced the organisers of the Country to Country Festival 2020 to postpone it. They say that they hope to reschedule it at a later date. Radio 2 was due at the event to broadcast the full headline set from Darius Rucker plus music and interviews from Old Dominion, Old Crow Medicine Show and Runaway June...
